HDR is an employee-owned architectural, engineering and consulting firm. The company has made a concerted effort to implement measures to reduce its environmental impact. HDR is in the process of implementing a new Sustainable Business Practice Initiative, called “Smart Solutions”. This program has three main areas of focus (i.e. Smart Product Use, Smart Office Environments, and Smart Travel Solutions) with the overall objective of reducing HDR’s carbon footprint on a full-time employee equivalent basis.

HDR became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2009. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
