Long Distance Walkers Association
概览
The LDWA is a national organisation whose aim is to further the interests of those who enjoy long distance walking.
Since in 1983 organises:
- a regular programme of informal social walks in South Wales
- challenge events, for example the Caerphilly Summits Challenge
- walking weekends in other parts of the country
Walks can be anywhere in South Wales and adjacent areas. From the Wye Valley in the east, through to the Gower Peninsular in the west; this, of course, includes the Brecon Beacons National park and all the other mountains, valleys, coastal and farmland areas in between.
Each walk in the programme has a leader who selects and plans the route, therefore no time is wasted in route finding on the walk itself. The walks are undertaken at a reasonable and sociable pace to accommodate people of varying abilities, nobody is ever left behind. Usually have two walks a month ranging in length from 14 to 30 miles. The average number of people on a walk is probably about 9 or 10.
Anyone capable of walking the distance in a reasonable time are welcome to try one or two walks to see if they suit them - just turn up and try it - but would be expected to join if they wish to continue and attend walks regularly. See the walks programme for the walks taking place in the near future. Membership of the South Wales Group itself is free. People wishing to take part just need to turn up on the day but don't be late - we may have gone. It may be wise to telephone the walk leader to let him know you are attending.
