"This early farm originally extended from Grove Street. Owner was J. Sadler until 1885 when it was purchased by Christopher Hinck, who developed much of the land in the neighborhood between Watchung Avenue and Chestnut Street. The property was called "The Farm" under the Hinck ownership.
Louise Hinck, Christopher's enterprising and successful daughter, followed in her father's footsteps and later developed the property surrounding the farm. She and her brother, Otto, opened up many of the streets running east from Grove, including Oxford, Cambridge, Tremont, Tuxedo, and Ardsley Roads. Miss Hinck planned to call the two streets bordering "The Farm" Leland and Stanford, but when a University of California person objected, she named one street Euclid after Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, OH., then considered to be one of the most beautiful streets in the United States.
This historic house, built in 1856, is listed on the State Register of Historic Places.
