Dare County Department of Social Services

Overview

The Mission of the Dare County Department of Social Services it to promote and strengthen family stability and integrity; to enhance the protection and care of children and dependent adults; and to assist all citizens in achieving their highest level of independence. The Department desires to accomplish its mission by:

1) Responding compassionately to the needs of the community and individuals;
2) Administering programs in accordance with established laws/policy and with fairness;
3) Respecting the privacy of clients and holding all information obtained in the course of professional services in confidence.
4) Promoting personal responsibility;
5) Remaining family centered; and
6) Involving the community.

Four full-time employees are based in the Hatteras Island Satellite Office to provide the full array of agency services.
