All Faiths Food Bank works with 190 non-profit agency partners to distribute food to more than 88,000 people in Sarasota and DeSoto counties every day. It reduces food waste by reclaiming the food that might otherwise go into local landfills and provides community leadership and education to the community on issues related to food, nutrition and hunger. All Faiths Food Bank reduced the amount of garbage it generates by finding sources to take materials not typically recycled, such as shrink wrap and large plastic containers. It has also instituted facility-wide energy conservation measures that will reduce its electric bills.
All Faiths Food Bank became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2013. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
