Dene High School is home to approximately 400 students and 60 staff members. It is located in the beautiful boreal forest of northern Saskatchewan and has the view of a lake on one side and a forested area on another.
The La Loche Environmental Society was founded after a group of motivated and energetic students attended the first ever Northern Saskatchewan Student Eco-Conference in the spring of 2017. These students set off on a mission to make our school more eco-friendly and reduce our environmental footprint. Since the start of this school year, we have stopped using disposable dishes for our breakfast and lunch programs and continued our recycling program for paper, cardboard, and beverage containers. This has greatly reduced the amount of garbage being produced by our school. Future goals of the group include: a composting area behind the school, a community garden, and filtered water dispensers that will encourage the use of reusable beverage containers.
