Mountain Lakes House
At the center of Mountain Lakes Preserve, overlooking a beautiful lake, the Mountain Lakes House serves as the home base for Friends of Princeton Open Space (FOPOS). FOPOS is a non-profit organization that has helped establish over 1,000 acres of parkland and a network of interconnecting trails that nearly circles Princeton. Through the contributions of hundreds of people in the community, FOPOS helped to raise $4.5 million for the purchase of land and acquisition of easements on properties that might have been bulldozed for development. In addition to property acquisition, FOPOS also leads in land stewardship, from creating and maintaining hiking trails, including boardwalks and footbridges, to the removal of invasive species and the replanting of native varieties. FOPOS sponsors nature walks and plant workshops that are free and open to the public. To learn more, get involved as a volunteer, or make a contribution to Friends of Princeton Open Space, please visit www.fopos.org. Mountain Lakes House's expansive lawn is also a popular site for picnics. A diversity of native plants surround the house, including a beautiful flowering dogwood. The Mountain Lakes House also features a rain garden on its north side.
Location: 57 Mountain Avenue, at the end of the driveway; a gravel parking lot is located next to the house.
