Originally being built in 1682, the theatre underwent reconstruction and was equipped with new machinery and Baroque-style decorations in 1766. The theatre has a significant historical value for the original foundation that date back to the 18th century, including the building itself, stage, and machinery. Original backdrops, costumes, scripts,and sheet music are also being preserved. Among over 400 baroque theatres that were present in Europe, only 3 have survived to present age, and the theatre in Český Krumlov is the oldest among them.

Visitors to Cesky Krumlov's music festivals such as Chamber Music Festival and Miraculum International Theatre Festival have rare chances to experience the theatre's unique mechanisms that enable backdrops being changed within 10-12 seconds.

7月に開催されるChamber Music Festivalと10月に開催されるMiraculum International Theatre Festivalでは、20世紀の技術と衣装を使ったパフォーマンスが行われる。
