Overview
The False Bay Ecology Park steering committee’s ‘Friends and Neighbours’ programme is building meaningful and effective relationships with three very different neighbouring communities with a common interest in the nature reserve’s buffer zone. The initiative increases awareness of and appreciation for, the work of the park, encourages community buy-in to its work, and improves environmental literacy. The pilot focuses on the Village Heights community on the western boundary of Rondevlei to facilitate a deeper connection between people and nature. Practical aspects of the programme, including a library, crèche, community centre and community garden, are each implemented by different stakeholders.
