Early in 2003 four community Leaders: Christopher Banks, Claudette Elliot, Richard Swinson and James Chestnutt, Jr. decided to make an stand for their community and the American principle of helping others to help themselves. East New York United Concerned Citizens was the product of their dedication and foresight. E.N.Y.U.C.C has since been incorporated (2005) and determined exempt from federal income tax under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code (2007). We have also built a committed and determined board of directors and fostered enduring relationships with many institutions, both of which have allowed E.N.Y.U.C.C., Inc. to expand the scope and breadth of our efforts.

East New York United Concerned Citizens, Inc. organized and coordinated an Intergenerational Holiday Dinner as its first charitable event in December, 2004. By generating this community event we were able to foster a relationship with the senior community and promote our newly founded organization. E.N.Y.U.C.C., Inc. re-affirmed its commitment to the senior community by sponsoring arts and crafts workshops and social events for this underserved segment of the community.

We have also worked tirelessly to address the many issues facing our youth. In the year 2005 E.N.Y.U.C.C. launched a “Dollars for Scholars Initiative” at our local junior high school, I.S. 166. Here we provide EE series savings bonds to at risk students who had overcome great obstacles to reach graduation as an incentive to continue the pursuit of higher learning.

East New York United Concerned Citizens, Inc. has continued to evolve into a community based social service organization which functions as a support network for the East New York community. We have expanded the focus of our programs to address and solve those issues which directly impact the East New York community; i.e., education with a strong focus on youth delinquency, lack of adequate recreation, disproportionate unemployment, economic empowerment and a host of other issues facing our great community.
